MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM

The Belvidere Park District is partnering with citizens to add new trees to keep the parks green and provide a living memorial for family and friends. For additional information on adopting a mature tree or planting a new tree, please contact Dan Roddewig, Executive Director at 547- 5711.

KISHWAUKEE RIVERFRONT PATH
The Park District works hand-in-hand with the Kishwaukee Riverfront Committee to continue improving upon the two plus miles of asphalt path. By working with community organizations to raise funds and receive grants, the possibilities are endless. The most recent phase of path development is located along Kishwaukee River in downtown Belvidere between State and Main Streets.

RECREATION PATH ETIQUETTE
To assure safe and enjoyable use of the recreation path by all, some simple rules of courtesy are to be followed. Pass only on the left after you have announced you are passing. Leaving room on the path for others to pass and single file on busy days. Be aware of wildlife on and near the path and do not feed the animals. Pets must be leashed at all times and remember to clean up after your dog.

"KISH-WALK"
Local students in grades 3-5 (grades 3-6 at Saint James and Immanuel Lutheran Schools) will soon be collecting pledges for the 16th annual Kish-Walk. Children will walk up to 1.5 miles in their physical education classes and collect money according to amounts pledged. The students receive awards according to the amount collected. The individual who raises the most money receives a pool party for 50 friends! Funds are used to expand the Kishwaukee Riverfront Path, a percentage goes back to each school and $500 to the "More Kids More Fun" Financial Assistance Program. It's a great community effort. Over $152,700 has been collected by the "Kish-Walk Kids."

PARKS AND CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

The Parks and Conservation Foundation is a not-for-profit organization chartered in July 1992 that serves park, conservation, recreation and preservation projects in Boone and surrounding counties. Land acquisition is a priority so that future generations may enjoy open spaces and recreation in reasonable proximity to where they live.

It is projected that our population will double between 1993 - 2013 and the need to preserve open space for the recreational and leisure needs of our future community becomes more urgent.

As we plan for our future, we continue to look to the past for inspiration. Growing together, we can create a new foundation for our community's future. For more information, to schedule a Foundation representative to speak with you or to an interested group, or to arrange for an audio-visual presentation showing current facilities and programs, please contact the Executive Director at 547-5711.
