Belvidere Park District Special Recreation and Northlands Association for Special Recreation (NASR) is a cooperative partnership between the Belvidere, Freeport, and Rockford Park Districts (referred to as a member district).

Riverside Ice Arena
The Riverside Ice Arena opened in 2015 and is home to our Ice Rink and AJ Johnson Warming House. We offer public skate, open hockey, several Ice Hockey Tournaments each season, and hockey and ice skating lessons for all ages. The Warming House rents skates and skating aids. The Riverside Ice Arena is located within Doty Park and sits along the Kishwaukee River in Downtown Belvidere.
Rivers Edge Rec Center
Historic Baltic Mill
Located in Belvidere Park off of Lincoln Avenue, the Baltic Mill has been renovated to provide historical artifacts, a meeting room, a public restroom and house the Boone County Arts Council office. Adjacent to the Baltic Mill is a stage area where “Concerts in the Park” are provided for the community. Local businesses and organizations may reserve the Baltic Mill for meetings. Baltic Mill Stage and seating areas are available for rentals May thru October. For information, please call 815-547-5711
Sundstrand South Shelter
Located on the south side of Sundstrand Park, this spacious shelter offers a welcoming outdoor retreat for up to 150 guests. With a volleyball court for friendly competition and convenient restroom access, it’s the perfect spot for gatherings, picnics, and recreational fun.
Rental Rate: $150/Day (9 AM-9 PM)

Whispering Pines Shelter
Nestled in the heart of Belvidere Park, just off South Appleton Road, this secluded shelter offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. With space to accommodate up to 100 guests, it’s the perfect spot for gatherings. Enjoy the tranquil setting near the river, where ample tree cover provides refreshing shade for a relaxing outdoor experience.
Rental Rates: Half Day $20, Full Day $35.

Sundstrand West Shelter
Located on the west side of Sundstrand Park, this is our largest shelter, offering a spacious and versatile setting for up to 250 guests. With a volleyball court, convenient restroom access, and close proximity to the baseball fields, it’s the perfect choice for large group gatherings, celebrations, and outdoor events.

Nestled in the serene east-central section of Belvidere Park near the dam, this secluded shelter offers a tranquil escape surrounded by nature. With space for up to 100 guests, it’s an ideal setting for gatherings, picnics, and celebrations. Enjoy the gentle shade of towering trees, a nearby river for a scenic backdrop, and a small swing set for added family-friendly fun.

Prairie Fields – Red Shelter
This spacious shelter, located within Prairie Fields Sports Park, offers a versatile gathering space for up to 150 guests. Just 512 yards from the parking lot, it provides a perfect setting for picnics, celebrations, and group events, surrounded by the park’s vibrant recreational atmosphere.
Rental Rates: Half Day $40, Full Day $60
