Outreach/Inclusion Efforts

ATTENTION PARENTS & TEACHERS:

Invite us to attend IEP meetings!

A representative from Special Recreation will attend IEP meetings at your request or our availability. This is a wonderful opportunity to begin forging the relationship between the park district special recreation department, school, and parent which will help to enhance a student’s recreational abilities. Many of the Special Recreation programs and services can be utilized as useful tools for participants to gain social, emotional, and life skills while applying them to their everyday lives.

OUTREACH

Special Recreation Outreach proactively increases the visibility of programs offered, events planned, and services available, for individuals with disabilities. Our main focus is to increase the number of consistently active participants in programming while providing the maximum amount of services available.

The Outreach Program offers the following, in order to provide a quality service to our participants and their families; attending community resource fairs, utilizing RAMP and Easter Seals as a reciprocal referral service for professional and participant needs, completing New (and current) Participant Assessments, Special Recreation outreach events (ie Easter Seals Dance), online Resources, and a Resource Manual (located in the Special Recreation Staff Office) containing valuable information available to participants and their families at no cost.

MISSION

The mission of Special Recreation Outreach is to increase the visibility of programs offered, facilitate knowledge of services available, and support individuals, of all ages, with disabilities in Belvidere and the surrounding communities. We strive to offer the highest quality of assistance available while giving a participant the maximum amount of information in regards to leisure and recreation opportunities available.

Are you a new participant interested in our programs and services? Are you an existing participant who would also like more information? Outreach staff welcome new and/or existing participants, their family, and friends to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. Contact Sean Cramer at 815-547-5711 x 601 or scramer@belviderepark.org to schedule an appointment to learn more about what Special Recreation has to offer you and your family.
